"setting driving standards"
Courses Information How to get started... If you've got a car of your own, it may make sense to use it for the Defensive Driving Course sessions. This will give you the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the car that you're not sure about, and help you to familiarise yourself with it. If you intend to purchase a new car, it would be an excellent opportunity to hire the same model and take the course in your car to be. During your course (even during the learner driving lessons) our highly trained instructors will also show you safety aids and how to use them properly. Basic Emergency Aid & Fire Fighting techniques are also included.
DDS
aims to give you a short cut to a higher standard of driving. We achieve
this by helping you learn what's important in a controlled way (with an
instructor) rather than in the usual, trial-and-error way that used to be
your only option.
Because
it's controlled, it's quick - you'll learn in a few hours what most people
take years to find out - if they ever do!
Defensive driving is based on effective observation, good anticipation, and control. It's about always questioning the actions of other road users and being prepared for the unexpected.
And
this means having real concern, not only for your own safety, but also for
other road users, including the most vulnerable - those walking or riding.
(Expect
other people to make mistakes) and be ready to slow down or
stop
- even if you think you have the right of way.
Benefits With better training and if you apply our techniques you will have no insurance claims and therefore your premiums will be less expensive then other drivers'.
KEY Benefits of each course: Research indicates that drivers trained to the advanced level are 75% less likely to be involved in an accident. Apart from being safer on the road, you can also gain from:
FAQ
A: There are more than 12,000
traffic accidents a year in Malta. This figure does not include near misses
or unreported
accidents. Most drivers think they are both safer and more skilful than the
average driver, yet 95% of accidents are caused by human error; mainly
unsafe driving practises. You realise that driving conditions change and are
becoming more difficult. In order to keep pace with this you need to review,
adapt and update your driving skills.
A: Absolutely any driver can become an advanced driver; given instruction and some practise. You will need to know and follow the guidance in the current issue of the Highway Code and our Roadcraft techniques. However you will be unwise to apply for the Test unless you have had proper instruction before.
Q: Is Defensive driving slow? A: Defensive driving is sometimes mistakenly perceived to be slow, hesitant, boring or unrewarding driving. Let us reassure you - it's not. Defensive Driving is only about controlling risk and gaining time to react. Sure we'll help you to improve your driving skills and minimise your chances of being involved in an avoidable crash. However at Defensive Driving School we'll make sure this process is an enjoyable and rewarding one. Today's top racing drivers have a superb sense of balance and feel for the car's attitude on the track. They are in complete mechanical control of the vehicle, but they are stressing it often beyond endurance. The skills and temperament needed to win and the refusal to give an inch, even when cornering to the limits of the car's adhesion, makes track driving techniques and mental attitudes completely wrong for everyday on the road driving
IF IT FEELS FAST ....... IT'S BAD DRIVING
The
secret of good driving is smooth progress, always being in the right part of
the road, travelling at the right speed and in the right gear; never
making unnecessarily jerky moves or changes of direction. Progress is smooth
because you are always in control and you plan what you intend to do. You
are always able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear. The
greatest compliment a passenger could possibly pay you is that if you gave
him or her a lift, the journey would not be spent sitting bolt upright,
wide-eyed at the progress you are making, but they would be relaxed and
confident with the skills displayed.
